Salt Lake City, UT – University of Utah Rugby announced today a historic partnership with Zions Bank Stadium to host its home games starting this spring season. This partnership will provide Utah Rugby with a stadium home, giving fans a location to support the team and experience the fast-paced action of rugby.

Rugby has seen significant growth in popularity over the past few years and having a dedicated stadium will provide the platform for the sport to continue its growth trajectory at the University of Utah. Zions Bank Stadium, with its state-of-the-art facilities, is the perfect venue for rugby games and will offer fans an enhanced game-day experience.

“This partnership is a major milestone for Utah Rugby and a testament to the hard work and dedication of our players and coaching staff,” said Utah Rugby Coach, Adam Griffee. “Having a stadium and a place for fans will allow us to bring the excitement of rugby to a larger audience and help grow the sport.”

University of Utah has previously held games at the McCarthey track and field and as nice as it is being on campus with the amazing views, the field itself has had 2 large limitations. The main issue is that with the schedule being played in the spring, a wet grass hill with no bleachers is not appealing to fans. Second they were also running in to issues of the University not willing to push snow off the field because of the surrounding track. This partnership gives Utah a venue to focus on fan experience, an element crucial to building its team.

Utah Rugby has had an amazing program, competing in the National Championship 2 times and winning a 7’s National Championship. It has developed 11 players to play for the USA National team and 36 All-Americans in the past 20 years. It has played some big games in Real Salt Lake stadium and is working on putting the team back in that national spotlight.

The partnership with Zions Bank Stadium will also help Utah Rugby to attract top-tier talent, build a stronger team, and compete at the highest level.
